What is take-home pay?

Take-home pay is the amount left from gross salary after deductions. This calculator subtracts estimated Income Tax, employee National Insurance and the pension percentage you enter.

How is take-home pay calculated?

Your tax code supplies the tax-free allowance, the relevant regional tax bands are applied, then employee National Insurance and pension are deducted.

What can affect my take-home pay?

Your salary, tax code, pension contribution and whether Scottish tax bands apply can change the result. Student loan repayments and other payslip deductions are not currently included.

England, Wales and Northern Ireland vs Scotland

Scotland has different Income Tax bands. Choose Scotland in the calculator to use the supported Scottish rates. Employee National Insurance is shown separately.
